Multiple Hereditary Exostoses

Hi! My name is Leah Emerson. I am 11 years old and in the 7th grade. I want to tell you about Dr. Feldman and his team, what they mean to me and all that they have done for me.

At the age of 4, my mom took me to the doctor because a bump was found on my right femur. It was at that time that I found out I have Multiple Hereditary Exostoses; basically a bunch of words to describe my bumpy bones. It wasn’t until 2017 that I met Dr. Feldman. I was in severe pain but told previously by my other doctors that my pain was not real.

Dr. Feldman immediately knew where and why I was in pain and he was able to fix it. He cares about me and doesn’t like when I am hurting. Dr. Feldman has operated on my bumpy bones to take away my pain in my femur, knees, toes, arms, and ankles. It isn’t easy having MHE but having Dr. Feldman on my side makes it so much better. I get to enjoy the things I love again because of Dr. Feldman and his team. Dr. Feldman is so caring and funny. He always comes to check on me while I am in the hospital. His knowledge inspires me and makes me want to work in the medical field.

In 2018 both of my ankles were reconstructed. Today I am able to ride my bike with my brother, go hiking with my cousins and I can run and play for longer periods of time than I have ever been able to before. I know that my future may bring a few more surgeries, but I know who has my back and I know that whatever the future brings, Dr. Feldman and his team will see me through it and I will come out stronger and braver than before. I am super thankful for Dr. Feldman, he is so nice, kind, funny, and the best surgeon ever! Thank you so much Dr. Feldman!

Love,
Leah Emerson
